Sebastien Robuchon, nephew of Joël Robuchon, the man described as “The Chef of the Century” specialises in French cooking and “cuisine actuelle”, as well as contemporary Asian fusion. He spent his apprenticeship working at his uncle’s side and has continued a close relationship with the dishes that have made the Robuchon name famous among the cognoscenti.

The D2 (the ‘route des Châteaux’ or ‘Quality Stree’) is possibly the most famous road in the Bordeaux region, and driving up the D2 is like driving through a wine list. Passing one grand example of architecture after another, the road sweeps through the famous appellations of Médoc, Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac and Saint Estèphe. And most of these have great roadside restaurants.

British, French and Spanish chefs battled it out at a grueling live cook-off in the Loire Valley, France for the International Mâche Match 2008 on Thursday 6 November. Nick Chapman, House of Commons sous chef came second in the competition, scoring highest overall in the surprise basket round and impressing the international panel of judges.
